Theopetra, prototypes for real-world assets

Exploring the UX of critical use cases for a Web3 project

Challenge

Theopetra is a Web3 project that pushes forward a new way to own and use real estate, not only by tokenizing it, but also by making it affordable to rent. Through a solid ethos, Theopetra aims at creating communities that are empowered to make their own decisions, by using their mix of decentralized technologies and real-world footprint.

Theopetra published a series of bounties for the community to help them build the front and back end the project needed. Because of the audience this project is going to reach – regular people beyond crypto enthusiasts – I believe the use of their product should be as friction-less and reassuring as possible.

I decided to build a prototype to show how a couple of critical flows could be implemented, allowing future users to go through traditional life scenarios with Theopetra, and without the complexity Web3 too often creates.

Instead of use cases, think of user scenarios. The interface should enable people to achieve their goal with the product in as many ways as possible.

Approach

The first difficulty consisted in choosing the right scenarios to prototype. I had a few choices, from the most Web3 oriented (top up a wallet, convert tokens, vote on a proposal) to the most trivial ones (paying your rent, buying a fraction of real estate).

I chose the rent payment, as capped rents are at the core of Theopetra’s proposal, and this constitutes not only a regular gesture, but also the first one non-Web3 renters will be confronted to. It would be a great opportunity to expose them to a few of the Web3 features of the project through that medium, and progressively bring them on the journey Theopetra offers.

The interface puts the enphasis on two things: making sure your wallet has enough funds to pay your next rent and reassure the user that the rent has properly been paid. These cases are key to building the confidence in the project.
